Plusnet broadband deals

Broadband provider Plusnet is owned by BT, but it's run independently and very much its own brand.

It’s become a key player in the UK broadband market, and has become known for strong customer service.

It also runs its own mobile phone service Plusnet Mobile, which 'piggybacks' off the EE network. See our Cheap Mobile Finder for the latest Plusnet Mobile deals and all firms that use the EE network

What does Plusnet offer?

Plusnet offers a range of standard-speed and fibre broadband packages, and usually offers broadband and line packages. It doesn’t yet offer any ultrafast packages, but we expect it to at some point as the fibre to the premises (FTTP) rollout continues to gather pace. See our Fibre to the premises explained guide for more information.

How good is Plusnet's customer service?

Plusnet’s customer service is rated ‘good’ overall.

In our February 2023 poll, 59% of over 620 Plusnet customers who answered scored it ‘great’ for customer service, and almost 12% rated it ‘poor’.

What Plusnet broadband speeds can I get?

Plusnet offers three types of unlimited broadband package, including:

  • Entry level standard-speed option (10Mb) referred to by Plusnet as Unlimited Broadband
  • Standard fibre (36Mb) and
  • Its fastest Fibre Extra (66Mb)

Plusnet uses the Openreach network, so it’s available to the majority of households, but not all homes can get the faster speeds – use our postcode checker to see if you can get it. To find out which speed is right for you, see our Cheap Broadband guide.

Plusnet line rental

It comes with free calls to other Plusnet numbers, but if you plan to use it for much else, you have a choice of calls packages including ‘Unlimited UK and Mobile calls’ and ‘Anytime International’.

Our top need-to-knows

1

Who we do and don't compare

This tool looks at 31 of the biggest providers, including the giants of BT, Sky and Virgin. Plus special deals we've found or blagged that we think are top picks. Yet there are also many small providers we can't list - which occasionally have cheap deals - so it's always worth checking direct with any local provider you know of. Let us know if you find a top deal we've missed and see which providers this tool covers.

2

Switching can save you £100s

Many get a cheap promo deal for broadband, line rent and/or TV, and stick with it when it ends, usually paying £100s/year more than they started with. Don't let it be you - compare now and see if you could save

3

Fast advertised speeds don't mean faster broadband

Providers only have to advertise the average speed received by at least 50% of customers between 8pm and 10pm. Your actual speed can depend on a host of factors - see the full checklist of tips in Broadband Speed Boosting.

4

Consider your need for speed

If it's just you and the dog, you're likely to be fine with standard speeds averaging around 11Mb. If you share a house, or you use the web for movie downloads, streaming or gaming, you may want to opt for faster speeds in excess of 30Mb.

5

Beware of mid-contract switching costs

Usually you'll pay for the rest of the contract plus termination fees. If your provider increases prices mid-contract and didn't warn you before you signed up, you can switch penalty-free within 30 days of notification of the price hike.

FAQs

If a link has an * by it, it is an affiliated link that helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment or benefit to the site. It's worth noting this means the third party used may be named on any credit agreements.

You shouldn't notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links. We aim to look at all available products. If it isn't possible to get an affiliate link for the top deal, it is still included in exactly the same way, just with a non-paying link.
